You are keen on introducing the Montessori screwdriver activity to your toddlers, but you are unsure when and how to do it.
Let me tell you—the Montessori screwdriver activity is a practical life activity that is introduced to toddlers and preschoolers once they have mastered the lock and key activity.
Following the logic of Montessori principles, I introduced this activity to my children just after they had perfected the lock and key activity.
To introduce this activity to my young ones I needed a Montessori screwdriver board set, a small screwdriver for toys, and a toy screwdriver for preschoolers.
Screwdriver Montessori Activity For Toddlers And Preschoolers:
I have clarified that I used different sets, boards, and toy screwdrivers to introduce this activity to my children. Therefore, I decided to divide the activity into different parts.
I made a small diy screwdriver for my toddlers because I wanted to show them what a real screwdriver would look like, its functions, and more. I bought a 4/5” plywood, sandpaper, drill, and T-nuts.
After that, I started making diy Montessori screwdriver for my children. I drilled a hole, sanded the rough edges, and inserted the T-nuts into the wood with the help of a hammer.
I made it sure that the little teeth of those T-nuts went all the way in. Finally, my children could screw in matching-size hex head bolts with a nut driver. In the beginning, I chose a nut driver instead of a screwdriver because it was easier for them to use.
After a couple of days, I observed that my children were ready for a new challenge and hence I made a new screwdriver board with a sanded piece of wood. I used a Bosh screwdriver to help the children practice turning screws.
Next, bought a toy battery compartment because I wanted my children to learn to remove and replace screws and access batteries.
Now my children (who are 7 & 5) have become proficient. They practice tightening drawer knobs and screws around the house, integrating practical life skills into their learning.
