As a spirited father of a 7-year-old, I myself learned Montessori methods and made my child learn them. It is worthy to mention that he turned to be a hands-on learner. Here I cite some topics that were effective for my child’s all-round development.

- Nature Journaling- I took my child out into nature and asked him to observe and record natural items like plants, leaves, insects, animals, and also weather conditions in a diary or journal.
(b) Star-gazing – During the night when the weather was fine, I taught him how to observe constellations, the pole star, the Orion, the cynosure, etc.
- Practical Life Activities :
(a) Fooding – To a child, fooding is an interesting subject. Therefore, I involved my child in preparing meals, making recipes, and setting tables.
(b) Gardening – Gardening is another heart-touching subject. Naturally, my son felt interested in planting, sowing seeds, watering plants, etc.
(c) Cleaning And Organizing – I urged my child to participate in cleaning and organizing our rooms.
- Linguistic Activity:
(a) Reading Comprehension – I told my son a catching story and asked him questions to make him think critically before answering.
(b) Creative Writing – I urged my son to write short stories, poems, or letters.
(c) Word Puzzles – Another amusing play is solving puzzles. I engaged my child in easy crossword puzzles.
- Creative Activity :
(a) Drawing – It is a common tendency of my son to draw different things that he finds in the surroundings. He drew many pictures and painted them with crayons or watercolor.
(b) Junk Art – With my assistance, my son is attracted to using unused old things to create artistic items. He also made colleges.
These activities are for focusing on critical thinking, practical skills, developing self-reliance, self-directed learning, and exploration.
Montessori Toys For A 7-Year-Old
I weigh that Montessori toys are needed for various Montessori activities for a 7-year-old as they have a focus on fostering independence, making solutions, critical consideration, and creativity.
Here I mention some toys that my 7 year son played with during his leisure period.
- Puzzle Games – Wooden puzzles or 3D puzzles for critical thinking and reasoning.
- Mathematical Materials – Math beads, fraction circles, and wooden Math games ( for understanding Mathematical concepts)
- Geographical Tools – A globe, maps, or map puzzles ( for having ideas about countries in the physical world)
- Nature Kits – Gardening kits or a plant life-cycle kit. ( for observing the natural world)
- Art Materials – Water-color sets, crayons, clay ( for creativity and fine motor skills)
- Language Tools – Word puzzles, phonic games, word-picture matching sets( for increasing vocabulary and comprehension)
Sometimes, my son needed little assistance.
Cognitive Development Activities For A 7-Year-Old
In the case of my 7-year-old child, I found that the following activities stimulated cognitive development funnily and engagingly.

- Memory Games – Using a deck of memory game cards stimulates the memory power.
This increases memory recall and concentration.
- Board Games – Showing chess and its basic chess strategies and moves.

Montessori activities for a 7-year-old don’t exclude quiet activities because these are also efficacious in calming and growing creativity as well.
My seven-year-old son performed some of the quiet activities that I found good for him. Some such activities are:-
- Drawing and coloring according to his liking.
- Writing short stories and letters to relatives.
- Reading short stories that may be fiction or non-fiction or comic or mythological.
- Solving crossword puzzles or easy sudoku.
- Making origami of different designs.
- Playing chess or checkers alone.
- Listening to audiobooks.
- Building structures with blocks or LEGO.
In the case of my child, I witnessed that he did all these spontaneously in his leisure and surprisingly he took no help.
Fun Activities For A 7 Year Old At Home
It appeared that my child took an interest in Montessori activities but some of them turned out to be very funny and engaging to him. 8 mention here some such activities-
- Story Writing – My child drew fun from writing comic stories.
- Building Project – My son also took a great interest in building structures with blocks.
- 3. DIY Science Experiment – For this, I hinted at the volcanic eruption. According to Instructions, he used baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring to create a miniature volcanic eruption on a board.
- Paperwork – My son created masks of various designs and wore them with rubber bands. For this, he used papers of different colors and thick papers.
- Solving Puzzles – I gave him some puzzles and created a sense of competition within a time limit. He tried his best to solve them funnily.
- Dancing – I played some songs and urged him to dance to the tune.
- Gardening – It has become one of my child’s hobbies. He took great interest in planting, watering, weeding, and seeding in our Small backyard garden.
